Contractor Chris Woods tallied 6,957 votes (18 percent) during the August 22 municipal election
Former mayoral candidate Chris Woods announced today during a press conference that he is endorsing our campaign for Mayor of Birmingham. Our campaign captured 41 percent of the vote in the August 22 municipal election just one week ago, and Woods tallied 18 percent.
“When I entered the race for mayor, my vision was clear – to unite people from all walks of life to support public education, and to create a more transparent City Hall. Although I came up short, I believe Randall Woodfin will ensure that this vision becomes a reality for Birmingham,” said Chris Woods. “There were 6,957 voters in Birmingham that believed in my integrity and leadership ability, and I encourage those supporters to join me in getting behind Randall Woodfin.”
Our campaign sparked a larger voter turnout than four years ago. We have created a true grassroots movement inspired by the people, the enthusiasm for our campaign has spread from Birmingham and across the United States.
“It has been a long, hard fought campaign, but I respect Chris Woods for elevating the issues that plague our city and consistently holding the current administration accountable,” stated mayoral candidate Randall Woodfin. “On August 22nd, 63 percent of Birmingham voters did not mark incumbent William Bell on their ballot. Sixty-three percent of Birmingham voters believe our city is better than our 30 percent poverty rate, the 107 homicides we are on track for this year, and zero job growth since 2000. Moving our city forward requires an all hands on deck approach, and I am fortunate to have the endorsement of a business leader like Chris Woods.”
