Herschell Hamilton is co-founder and Chief Strategic Officer of BLOC Global Group, a leading southeast U.S. based commercial real estate consulting services firm. With offices in Birmingham, AL and Washington, D.C., the company manages and develops complex real estate and building projects; provides commercial real estate transaction and advisory services, and corporate real estate staff augmentation services.

Through his leadership, Hamilton is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the company, structuring business and project opportunities, and managing client engagements. He has led the organization to secure major roles in aviation, master development, mixed-use, and mixed-income projects. Prior to co-founding BLOC, Herschell was Vice President of New Market Ventures for private equity firm MRG, where he was responsible for structuring and writing start-up and acquisition business cases, and securing municipal contracts for the firm’s proprietary “waste-to-energy” technology. Before joining MRG, Hamilton co-founded and served as Chief Operating Officer of a web-based media/technology company, where his responsibilities included day-to-day operations and administration, as well as strategic and financial analysis. He actively managed the closing of two equity funding rounds from both individual and institutional investors.

Hamilton spent a decade as an investment banker, structuring public finance transactions with Raymond James Financial and Porter White and Company. He served in two high-level public administration posts with former Alabama Governor Jim Folsom, where he coordinated and advised State boards, authorities, and departments in the fiscally responsible issuance of approximately $500 million in bonded debt. He also worked as Chief Administrative Assistant to Birmingham Mayor Richard Arrington, Jr., serving as chief advisor on matters of finance, economic development, and capital projects, while negotiating and structuring the City’s participation in numerous public/private partnerships.

Hamilton is a licensed real estate broker in Alabama, Georgia, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin, and earned his CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation in 2010. Over his career, Hamilton has held Series 3, Series 7, and Series 63securities licenses. Hamilton is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Birmingham Branch Board, member of the Board of Directors of the Ballard House Project, Inc., Executive Committee member of the Birmingham Business Alliance and Leadership Birmingham. He is the former Chairman of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute Board of Directors and Red Cross Blood Services Division (Central Alabama and Gulf Coast Region), as well as former Director of Birmingham Water Works and Sewer Board. Hamilton earned his undergraduate degree in Zoology from Howard University, Washington, D.C., a Master of Arts in Public and Private Management from Birmingham Southern College; and is a candidate for a Master of Science in Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas at Austin
