Sign Our Petition: Ban No-Knock Warrants in Alabama

On Tuesday July 20, Mayor Woodfin announced that the City of Birmingham would ban the practice of no-knock warrants.

Since the killing of Breonna Taylor in Louisville last year, no-knock warrants have become a focus of activists around the country. No-knock warrants authorize police officers to enter a premises without first knocking and announcing their presence or purpose. These types of warrants are disproportionately directed at people and communities of color and often result in violence, injury, and death of individuals they are targeting, including many individuals that are entirely innocent of a crime.

Many municipalities, including Birmingham, have moved to ban the practice of no-knock warrants. This is a good first step, but more needs to be done to demilitarize local police forces across the state and country.

That’s why we’re asking you to sign our petition calling on the Alabama legislature to pass a law banning no-knock warrants statewide.
